After attending COS’ 2023 autumn-winter show at New York Fashion Week, I ended up seeing a play, dressed in some pieces from the London-based brand’s latest collection. Theatregoers stopped me to compliment my outfit, calling it “simple and sleek” and commented on how “the material falls so nicely.” This was a rare occurrence, as I always prioritize comfort, which rarely overlaps with style compliments.

In general, I like simple, easy-to-wear, comfortable, androgynous styles. COS is known for its clean lines, elevated essentials and sustainable collections — autumn-winter 2023 is no exception. It also happens to check off all of my clothing preferences.

The show perfectly captured the collection, from the location to the recyclable metallic sets. It took place at the Classic Car Club Manhattan, a car club that originated in London but migrated to New York. COS was founded in London in 2007 and made its way to New York in 2014 (followed by Toronto in 2015 and eventually set up stores in Vancouver and Montreal). The ‘23 collection has the sophistication of London, the edge of New York and the layers required for Canada.
The models showcased 43 looks as they walked against the backdrop of curved metallic structures — which will be donated to Materials for the Arts, a New York program that provides resources for nonprofits, public schools and other organizations with free materials. The ‘23 collection also features beautiful metallic pieces, like the Column Coates-Denim Jeans.

In general, COS offers timeless looks and high-quality garments, but it also prioritizes the environment by sourcing sustainable or recycled materials.
A few pieces from COS go a long way in a versatile closet, as they can be easily styled and mixed and matched — a perfect contribution to a timeless capsule wardrobe. I tend to gravitate toward neutral colours and styles but appreciate the metallic pop in the ‘23 collection. Here are some highlights, starting with the two pieces I wore and love. These trousers are elevated casual. You can easily dress them up with a blazer or go grunge with an oversized graphic tee.
This shirt steams like a dream. I packed this shirt with me and packed in a few creases too. I streamed it for all of 30 seconds and it came out perfectly wrinkle-free. The material is soft and drapes nicely.
