Boots for fall are by no means groundbreaking. But in his fall 2023 show for Loewe, Johnathan Anderson sent models down the runway in boots so slouchy they were practically falling off of their feet. While designers showcase looks that are more for art than commerce, the slouchy Loewe boot is seeing the light of day, courtesy of one Emily Ratajkowski.
It seems quite appropriate that the woman who could pull off just about anything is the one to wear the controversial shoes, which last reigned supreme in the 2000s, IRL. The model attended Loewe’s spring 2024 show today in Paris wearing the wunderkind designer’s über-slouchy boots.
While some of the models on the fall 2023 runway wore the boots so low that they were wider than they were tall, EmRata’s hovered around mid-calf, with much of the shaft scrunched around her ankles. The shoe’s wide calf ensured that, should she so desire, there was still plenty of material left to slouch. Perhaps the antithesis of the sleek Balenciaga pantaboot, Ratajkowski’s chocolate brown Loewe boots were imbued with Anderson’s trademark whimsy. Made to resemble a pair of pants, the leather shoes are embellished with belt loops, a button closure, and fly. The podcast host made sure that her pant-boots were on full display, wearing a tomato red off-the-shoulder long-sleeve maxi dress with a hip-high slit.
Ratajkowski was not the only one repping the controversial slouchy boot. Past Lives star and Loewe campaign star Greta Lee also donned a pair, opting for a lighter, buttery shade. While of course, a Loewe show is a likely place for Loewe clothing to be, Emily Ratajkowski is still as good a fashion barometer as ever.
