Manolo Blahnik shoes have a long association with Sex And The City and the 80-year-old Spanish designer has previously credited the series with boosting his career.
He told Vogue in 2009: “I adore Ms Parker. The character she played has had such a role in my career – I cannot help but regard both of them as muses!”
His company put its success last year down to the end of pandemic restrictions around the world, with a surge in weddings and events driving demand for its shoes.
More recently, the company said it had seen high demand for simple shoes that could be treated as “investment pieces”.
Other luxury brands have reported a similar trend, with well-off shoppers spending more money on iconic handbags and similar goods that appreciate in value. Some view the trend as a hedge against inflation.
Despite a record year, chief executive Kristina Blahnik said 2023 was likely to be a leaner year given high inflation and a slowing global economy.
Ms Blahnik, who is the niece of the company’s founder, said: “2022 was an extraordinary year of consumer demand, which will naturally rebalance in 2023 given multiple macro-economic headwinds.”
Last year Manolo Blahnik won a 22-year legal battle over its copyright in China. The country’s highest court invalidated a trademark using the shoemaker’s name, paving the way for it to launch a major expansion across the country.
