Fall Capsule Wardrobe
If you’re an email subscriber, you know that we release four capsule wardrobes each year for spring, summer, fall, and winter. We typically release our fall capsule wardrobe a little early because of…the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! The NSale is the biggest sale of the year because it’s the only sale where you can get this year’s fall and winter styles before the season even starts. We cover the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale extensively and share SO many helpful resources, but this capsule wardrobe was such a big hit last year, we knew we had to do it again this year! Starting July 14th, all Nordstrom cardholders can start shopping and if you don’t have a Nordy card, Public Access starts on 7/17 so start prepping your carts and adding items to your wishlist now so you can shop as soon as the sale opens for you.
You’ll find more Nordstrom Anniversary Sale details like the dates you can shop, our picks, and more here.

If you’re new to the idea of a capsule wardrobe, make sure you check out this post where I break down how to build a capsule including choosing a color story, choosing basics wisely, and and more. Now for the basics…ALL on sale!
Tops & Sweaters
There are SO many good sweaters and tops in the sale this year. One that we think you should grab is the Free People cable knit sweater because it will sell out FAST. It comes in a bunch of colors but I love the ‘Silver Feather’ color shown in the graphic above. Another great sweater option I linked below is this Treasure & Bond sweater that’s an affordable and lightweight option.
Dresses & Bottoms
The first black dress by Open Edit can be worn buttoned up as a dress or unbuttoned as a longline cardigan. And how gorgeous is the bright blue color of that Reiss dress?? Added to cart immediately! You can dress the printed mini dress up or down and it will be much more versatile than you think…
I own and love jeans by each of the brands of jeans in this graphic. If you’re only going to buy one pair of jeans, make sure to check the inseam and rise so you know if they’ll work for your body. For more budget-friendly jeans, check out Wit & Wisdom and Pistola. The pants I featured are a fun basic with a twist…I love the split hem! But if you’re looking for something more affordable, try these Halogen pants. I also own and love these Reiss pants if you’re looking for a good pair of elevated black pants.
Outerwear
It’s hard to tell, but the camel coat has some cool black contrasting leather that gives it a bit more edge than your normal camel coat. The trench and the black blazer are wonderful basics. I purchased the Veronica Beard blazer (dickey included), the brown Avec Les Filles leather jacket, and the Blank NYC bomber jacket, and love them all! The blue coat is a fun pop of color if you already have your basics covered. If you’re looking for a black leather jacket, this AllSaints one and this Treasure & Bond one are always top sellers each year. We also love this cool AllSaints denim biker jacket.
Jewelry & Accessories
There’s a bunch of Monica Vinader jewelry in the sale this year, which is my favorite jewelry brand. So I own each of the pieces featured and wear them ALL the time! I also linked a great pair of affordable mixed-media earrings by Jenny Bird and a classic pre-layered necklace by Argento Vivo you’ll love.
Shoes & Boots
Grab your boots and booties for the year while they’re on sale! I linked a few different options that range from casual to dressier and should cover all your basic shoe needs. I linked the P448 sneakers because they rarely go on sale but I also love these Rag & Bone sneakers and New Balance sneakers for sportier, trendier options. Most of these shoes come in different color options too.
