A variety of fantastic sounds have been produced in the first half of 2023. The previous six months have highlighted Afrobeats musicians at their most brilliant and deliberate, dipping deeper and wider into both popular and alternative culture to produce transcendent music. This week sees an extension to the growing list of groovy Afrobeats songs released this year. Kicking off this week, Nigerian singer Oxlade teams up with British-Nigerian rapper Dave to give us Intoxycated, a song about love and its drawbacks.

Leading up to the weekend, afro-dancehall star Patoranking links up with Jamaican dancehall singer Popcaan to deliver a song titled Tonight. As it’s our custom to curate a bop-worthy weekly list of the top five trending new Afrobeats songs for you to expand your playlist, here is our upbeat selection for this week.

#1. Oxlade ft. Dave – Intoxycated

In a musical collaboration that transcends borders, Nigerian singer-songwriter, Oxlade and British-Nigerian rapper, Dave have come together to deliver a brand new single titled Intoxycated, expressing their take on love and their personal relationships. With raw honesty, Oxlade boldly asserts, “I feel like love is overrated, tell me, got me so wasted,” expressing his disillusionment with love due to the heart-wrenching experiences of infidelity he has encountered. In a vibrant fusion of musical cultures, Nigerian act Patoranking joins forces with Jamaican superstar Popcaan on a brand new single titled, Tonight. The collaboration marks the harmonious meeting of Naija and Jamaica, two powerhouse regions renowned for their infectious rhythms and captivating sounds. #4. J Hus ft. Naira Marley – Militarian

British rapper J Hus teamed up with Nigerian singer Naira Marley on a brand new collaboration titled Milliterian, a cut from his new studio album titled Beautiful and Brutal Yard. The track combines elements of Afrobeats, hip-hop, and dancehall creating a vibrant musical fusion. Milliterian demonstrates the unique styles and strengths of both artistes. J Hus brings his signature smooth flow and effortlessly switches between English and Jamaican Patois showcasing his versatility and cultural influences. Meanwhile, Naira Marley adds his infectious energy and distinct vocal delivery infusing the track with his trademark street-wise lyrics. #5. Adekunle Gold – Ogaranya

Former YBNL singer Adekunle Gold makes a grand return with a brand new song titled Ogaranya. The title of the song is in the Igbo Language, and it means “wealthy person.” This tune comes weeks after his EP Tio Tequila. The singer is celebrating a rich and successful life in his new song which is also a lead single to his forthcoming album. He will be dropping his fourth studio album titled Tequila Ever After on July 28, according to the announcement he made on social media.
